Using Architectural Glass (New for 1.03)

In this page, the Specular - Glass Version 2 preset is used to create transparent objects of thin glass, such as shop windows or soap bubbles. Its especially useful for creating hollow objects with single mesh without any thickness. And the color of the object comes from the air filled in the space inside of object.

Creating Flat Single Face Glass

If you have any flat model that is single-meshed without a thickness, such as a store or car window, then you may need to use the Specular - Glass v2 preset to render correctly.

  1. Create a new project in iClone.
  2. Adjust the camera to the desired angle.
  3. Select the object that you want to set as glass (in this case, the window glass of the store).
  4. Open the iClone Indigo Render Settings panel.

    Note:

By default, objects will be applied with Auto-convert shader for version 6.0 and Auto-convert v2 for version 6.03 or above.

  5. Click the Assign Indigo Shader button to open the corresponding panel.
  6. Double click on the Specular - Glass V2 preset to apply it to the glass part or the mirror.

    Note:

    • Double-click material application only works in version 6.03 and above.
  7. If you render the project in Indigo, the window display will look more like an aquarium because Indigo renders the glass with a medium, which will also distort the encased prop.

    Note:

Not only will you get an unsatisfactory result, but it also take a long time to render.

  8. Activate the Arch Glass (Architectural Glass) box in iClone to set the object as single-mesh glass with no medium.
  9. Because the object will now be totally transparent, you may need to increase the IOR value to enhance the reflectivity of the glass (in this case, up to 5).
  10. Render the project again with Indigo.

Creating Hollow Object with Closed Mesh

The Specular - Glass can also turn an object with closed mesh into a hollow one by using the Arch Glass setting.

  1. Create a new project in iClone. The objects are all with enclosed meshes, including the bubbles.
  2. Select the objects that you want to set transparent (in this case, the bubbles).
  3. Follow the steps 3 ~ 6 described above to apply the Specular - Glass V2 preset to the objects you want to set transparent (in this case, the bubbles).
  4. If you render the project in Indigo, the bubbles will look solid and heavy like solid crystal balls.
  5. Activate the Arch Glass (Architectural Glass) box in iClone to set the objects as single-mesh bubbles with no medium.
  6. Because the objects will now be totally transparent and hollow, you may need to increase the IOR value to enhance the reflectivity of the bubbles (in this case, up to 4).
  7. Render the project again with Indigo.
